There may be more than 800 days to go until voting, but sportsbook operator, DraftKings, has opened a betting market in Ontario on the next US presidential election in 2024.
Political betting is banned in the states, but that has not stopped the US-based fantasy sports brand from taking wagers in Canada under their new Ontario license.
DraftKings put embattled former president Donald Trump as the favourite to win the race at +250. The current Governor of Florida, Ron De Santis, is second at +300. President Biden comes next at +500, with his Vice President, Kamala Harris, much further out at +1200.

BETTING IN THE US
Although political betting is banned in the US there are two websites where it is still possible to wager – Iowa Electronic Markets and Predictit. Both of these are given exemptions by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as they are educational operations.
There are no plans to change the laws on political betting in the US any time soon as it is not seen to be in the public interest. For now though, at least residents in Ontario Canada can have a crack at picking the winner in what will be a long and bruising campaign.
DRAFTKINGS FINED FOR INDUCEMENTS TO BET
Elsewhere this month, DraftKings became the third operator in the new Ontario market to be issued with a fine for breaching the rules on inducements to bet.
Under Ontario regulations it is not permitted for a casino or sportsbook brand to publish free bet or enhanced odds offers anywhere other than on their own site. Customers must also opt-in to receive offers after they have registered.
DraftKings used an enhanced odds offer on TV and social media during the NHL play offs in May this year and was subsequently fined $100,000 by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
Both BetMGM and PointsBet received fines in May 2022 for similar breaches of the rules on advertising gambling in Ontario.
